My very educated mother just served us... nachos?
Hey guys, good news. The war in Iraq is over.
There is peace in the Middle East.
Cancer has been cured, as well as the AIDS virus.
Racism, sexism, and poverty have been completely eraticated worldwide.
I'm just assuming all of this, of course. I mean, it must be true, since the media can find nothing better to report on than a 10-year-old murder case and the fact that "OH MY GOD, PLUTO ISN'T A PLANET??"
Does anyone really care? Do we really have nothing better to do with our time than bicker about a rock that's circling the sun a few million miles away?
Apparently not.

maybe it is the fact that people all around the world have been studying about pluto and making rhymes and jingles for years and now when they are being told that pluto is not a proper planet they feel bad about it. It is the relation with the astrological calculations too which has left people wondering for it's alternative and thats why maybe it got so hyped in the media...
Why do people care so much whether we have 8 or 9 planets? Seriously, like you said, there are more important things to worry about and focus on (sorry all you astronomers).
A few million? It's 3,673 million (3.6 billion) miles from the sun. Hardly a few.
You want to see stories on the war in Iraq, the Middle East peace process, AIDs and social issues like racism, sexism and poverty?
So...what you're saying is you hate the troops, you're an Israel apologist, you're on the side of the radical homosexual agenda and you're a bleeding heart pinko feminazi, right?
Just so we're clear...
wow joe, kinda harsh don't ya think? Isn't it better that we're more concerned about Israel, Iraq, and the AIDS epidemic than a ball floating around in space. Last time I checked, Pluto wasn't affecting my life or the future life of humanity.
But that's just me :)
I was joking - just sort of mimicking the hardcore conservative reaction to newspapers (and television) covering stories such as the ones Melissa asked for.

that's good Joe. For a second I thought you'd turned into an arrogant arse!
One doesn't necissarily rule out the other...but in this instance I was kidding.
Readership's down everywhere.
People are reading fewer newspapers, getting more of their news online. The online numbers for newspapers are up across the board.
But if you'd like to compare the NYT numbers to the Washington Times, be my guest...
